New Water Well Complete

New Water Well Complete  - News Reel Construction of the city's newest water well is complete. The well is located on US Highway 51 N. on a site the City acquired in 2009. The completed well is the third primary source of water for the city and will lessen current demands on the two existing wells by providing approximately 1,000 gallons of water per minute. The City worked three years to secure State Capital Outlay funds for this project. Funds in the amount of $630,000 were made available for the project in the summer of 2009.

An additional $900,000 in State Capital Outlay funding was secured in December 2011, for the final phase of the project, which will provide for construction of an elevated water storage tower.  The elevated storage tower will add additional capacity to our water system and help to ensure our current Class III fire rating.



Safe Routes Project Underway

Safe Routes Project Underway - News Reel Construction has begun on the City’s newest Capital Improvement Project being funded by a grant from the LA Dept. of Transportation and Development. The project is part of the “Safe Routes to Schools” program which provides for the construction of sidewalks, signage, and drainage imrovements, around schools. The City recieved approx. $430,000 in funding to complete this project, which is in the area of Ponchatoula Jr. High and Tucker Elementary Schools, specifically N. 3rd St., N 4th St., E Cypress St., and E Oak St. The new 5 ft. sidewalks will connect to recently built sidewalks on East Pine St. that were also funded by a grant the city received in 2009.  The project is expected to be complete by April 1st.


Grant Application Submitted for Sewer Improvements

The City recently submitted a $775,000 grant application to the LA Division of Administration for sewer system improvements along US Highway 51N, and the southwest quadrant of the City. Every two years applications can be submitted to the Division as part of the LA Community Development Block Grant Program (LCDBG). In 2009, the City was awarded $800,000 in grant funds for similar improvements in the northeast and southeast sections of the City.


Street Improvements to Begin Soon

Street Improvements to Begin Soon - News Reel The latest round of street improvements, which is to be done in conjunction with the Parish’s existing contract, is expected to begin early 2012. With both the City and Parish’s list of included streets, the project is expected to cost over $500,000.
